Tickled Pink Pickle Juice
Out of all the debates raging in the world at the moment, there’s one in particular we’ve decided to devote some brain space to. And that my friend is the pickle juice trend.
We’ve dabbled in a fair few fermented and vinegary beverages of late: pickle juice margaritas (delicious), pickle lemonade (pleasant), shrub (divine), kombucha (can’t get enough), switchel (so good), picklebacks (not convinced) and lately, pure pickle juice shots.
A pickle juice shot feels like it’s at the same end of the playing field as cold plunges and medicinal mushrooms: potentially good for you, maybe not 100% pleasurable. But as we head into the hottest day of the year and maybe the hottest June day on record ever, we had a brainwave to go along with the heatwave.
Take some Cowboy Candy pickled chilli juice. Water it down a little bit until it goes from opaque to zesty pink. Pile in your finest ice cubes. Add a sprig of coriander. Or a slice of lime. Or both. Drink that bad boy down.
It gives canned soda without the sickly sweetness. It gives mocktail without the cloying fruitiness. It gives Bloody Mary without the soupiness or the hooch. Although you could add hooch. In which case you’ll be enjoying a new concoction we’re calling the Pink Pony Club.
Try it! Let’s have a heated debate! But let’s drink cool drinks while we’re doing it.
SIDE NOTE
One of our friends accidentally ended up late-late-late night at the Pink Pony Club in Atlanta. He was struggling to find a cab home so he called his wife to beg her to come pick him up. To this day, I can replay her answer in my head and crack myself up. “You figured out how to get yourself there, so I guess you can figure out how to get yourself home.” She put the phone down without saying goodbye. And guess what! He found his way home. But I don’t think he’s made that same mistake twice.
